Changed by the Storm
The Storm-Touched
A rare few emerge from the Storm with their minds intact and their abilities heightened. A fighter becomes stronger or quicker; a mage can wield greater power. These survivors are called Storm-Touched.
Most can pass unnoticed. Only a close look reveals clouds stirring within their eyes, sometimes flashing with lightning during anger or exertion. Discovery can bring unwanted attention from those who want their power for themselves.
Storm-Madness
Some survivors return confused and terrified. Others seem well enough until their speech falters, suspicion takes hold, or a familiar face becomes someone they fear.
Families hide sufferers from the authorities. Preachers call for their execution. Unexplained cases far inland have made people suspicious even of neighbours who have never approached the coast.
Changed Beasts
Long exposure to the Storm or its crystals can change an animal’s size, strength and temperament. Creatures once driven off by hunters become fiercely aggressive and difficult to kill. In abandoned workings and remote coastal waters, these beasts can make familiar ground too dangerous to enter.
