Storm Crystals

Blitspar

Before the Storm returned, blitspar was a dark ornamental stone, cut for jewellery and worked into prized possessions. Then deposits beneath the island began to awaken.

Charged crystals remain cold to the touch, with shifting blue veins beneath their glassy surfaces. They conduct immense power, making them valuable to smiths, scholars and anyone willing to risk handling them.

A Dangerous Find

Storm Crystals occur in deep mines and caves, sometimes in places abandoned long ago. An intact specimen can be worth the journey, but a careless blow may release its power violently. Cutting one demands exceptional skill, and prolonged exposure can affect the person carrying it.

Storm-Forged

Even a roughly mounted crystal can lend power to a weapon. Goruk warriors have strapped shards to their shields, while skilled smiths set them into blades and hammerheads.

The finest examples are Maelblades: individual works whose crystals form part of the weapon itself. Some predate the human kingdom. Only a handful of masters retain the knowledge needed to make them.
